Religion and Ethical Standards

 Religion and Ethical Standards

When I accepted Jesus Christ into my life all the old unethical things that I did before are history. Sure I’m not a saint by any means but it make me feel great to be active in the church and help other that are in need. The Divine Command Theory is what a Christian adopts in their spiritual walk with god. Yes god command us do what is right these principles are taught as sermons in the bible to show us just like Moss, David, Adam we are not perfect creatures. (Banks, 2013)

I try to practice sound judgment but sometimes it hard when you have individuals that are cruel and evil in the world. Even on television in the reality shows the conduct is reprehensible with the fighting, and back biting that they do for example Mob Wives every other episodes someone is getting into a fight. But I guess that is part of their culture my I need to adopt one of the four Ethical Pluralism principles the “Principle of Understanding”. (Lawrence, 1998)

As a law enforcement officer I stand up against evil everyday by fighting crime, setting an example for others to follow, and treating other the way I want to be treated. (Lawrence, 1998)

  1. I live by the golden rule of treat everyone the way you want to be treated. This isn't always easy to do, unfortunately this isn't the way everyone feels. Some people are just unethical regardless of what the situation may be. A person's upbringing has a lot to do with the way a person treats another.
As a Police Officer, you take a oath to be impartial in every situation. We all know that doesn't happen all the time.

  2. I understand adopting the Christian faith. I have a hard time seeing TV shows that show fighting too. But I am strong enough in my faith to know that these actions that reality TV shows are showing are not proper. I think there are so many naïve people out in the world that think that this behavior is acceptable. Being a cop and seeing these behaviors in real life has to be difficult. I think being able to set standards for people to look up to you is a good idea. We need more role models in the world we live in.

  4. Hi Joel, I understand how keeping Christian faith is ethical and is a great thing to believe in Jesus Christ. I think on television and reality shows such as Jersey Shore or Sopranos they do unethical things such as fighting or cheating in a marriage; even lying to each other. These shows are bad examples of how people should be if they are Christians or Catholics. I believe that everyone should practice keeping faith with his or her religion; being honest, faithful and loyal because to do good moral things in life will lead to a greater success and important in Law Enforcement too.
